1. Why Use Vizimarks? (top)

Vizimarks is a revolutionary internet "scrapbook" service, which enables you to save almost any "cutting" from almost any web-page on the internet.

These include images, forms, frames, tables, your own selection of text, shockwave files, links to MPEG files, java applets, ..... as well as traditional text links to whole pages.  At the touch of a button, you can also upload all your existing "Bookmarks" or "Favorites" into your personal Vizimarks scrapbook.

Your cuttings appear on the "leaves" of your personal Vizimarks scrapbook much as they did on their original web-pages.  Each of your cuttings is displayed on screen in a "card", which you can place on whichever leaf of your scrapbook you want, and wherever you like on that leaf.

As well as having the ability to view the cuttings in your scrapbook, you can also "click-through" on any of them which have links attached - using them as visual bookmarks!

Even if you only browse the web occasionally, you'll find that Vizimarks is very easy and intuitive to use, and that it's the perfect tool to help you deal with the vast and growing content of the web.

Here are just some of the many ways in which you could use Vizimarks ..... (Click on the thumbnail images below to enlarge them.  The enlargements can be moved on the screen by "dragging and dropping" their title bars, and can be closed by clicking on the "close" button.) .....

Build a set of visual bookmarks, such as newspaper mastheads to "click-through" for up-to-date news ...
Upload and incorporate your regular "bookmarks" or "favorites" ...
Collect news stories and pictures of interest ...
Produce an on-line photo-album ...
Do research for a school project ...
Make a shopping wish-list ...
Keep an eye on the weather ...
Bring together all your favourite online cartoons to "click-through" to each day ...
Use Java applets and updating charts to monitor changes in stock and share prices ...

..... and the list goes on.  You can mix and match almost anything you want, to create your own personal Vizimarks scrapbook - the possibilities are endless!

2. Registration, Login and Installation (top)

Vizimarks will eventually make traditional bookmarks redundant and we hope you will make the Vizimarks Welcome Page your home page. Alternatively you can bookmark it (ideally on your 'Links' bar if you are using Internet Explorer, or on your 'Personal Toolbar' if you are using Netscape).

2.1 Registration

The first thing to do is to register for the service (installation will come later).  To start the registration process, click the 'Register' option in the menu on the left of the Vizimarks Welcome Page. You will then be presented with a short form to apply to become a Vizimarks customer. The fields you need to fill in are as follows:

  • Name :

This is just used as a greeting or salutation.

  • Email Address :

Since each email address is unique, we use this as your identifier. It must be a current and active email address, and will be verifed as part of the registration process. From time to time, we may contact you at this address to advise you of imporovements and developments we make to Vizimarks. For more information about this, please read our Privacy Policy Statement.

  • Password :

This is case sensitive and must be between 5 and 20 characters long, comprising only letters and numbers. Please ensure that you use a memorable password and remember that you are responsible for keeping it secret.

  • Challenge Question :

In case you forget your password, or we need to confirm your identify for another reason, we will ask you this question. You may, if you choose, use your challenge question as a password reminder, in which case your challenge answer would be the same as your password.

  • Challenge Answer :

This is the answer to the challenge question. It should be memorable and obvious to you, but NOT to anyone else. It is important that you keep it confidential as it allows you to change your password. You are responsible for keeping both your password and your challenge answer secret.

Finally, there is a check box to confirm your acceptance of our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, which form your contract with Copyn Limited.

Once your application has been accepted, you will have immediate access to your account. However, you will need to respond to an email that is automatically sent to the email address you provided on the registration form, in order to fully activate your account. Until you respond to this email and confirm your password, some functionality may be restricted; and if you do not respond within 7 days your account may be suspended.

2.2 Login

When you have registered you will automatically be logged in.  If you subsequently logout, or try to access Vizimarks on another computer, you will need to log yourself back in to be able to proceed to installation, or to access your scrapbook. To login, click the 'Login' item in the menu on the left of the Vizimarks Welcome Page.  Then enter your email address and password.

As with many internet services, your details will be stored in a cookie so that you don't always have to login if you don't want to.  This means that, for security, you should actively logout if you want to pevent other people accessing your personal scrapbook from your computer.

There is a convenient logout button near the top left corner of your scrapbook. On the Vizimarks Welcome Page, you can tell whether you are logged-in from a welcome message near the top of the screen. If you are logged-in, the welcome message and your name will be shown; if not, there will be no such message.

2.3 Installation

Before you install Vizimarks, you need to have first registered, and you also need to be logged in.

You only need to undertake the installation process once on each computer you wish to use Vizimarks. After that, the Vizimarks browser extensions will always be available to you, unless you choose to uninstall them.

After you have registered and are logged-in, click the 'Install Vizimarks' item in the menu on the left of the Vizimarks Welcome Page. In the pop-up windows which subsequently appear, follow the instructions for running (not saving) the program. Don't worry if you get a 'signature not found' message - just continue to follow the instructions for running the program.

Finally, to activate the Vizimarks functionality, close all your browser windows and then restart the browser.  You are now ready to start using Vizimarks!

If you are using Netscape 6 please ensure that you have 'write access' to the directory in which Netscape 6 was installed - if you have any difficulties please contact us at help@vizimarks.com.

3. So Much More than Bookmarks or Favorites (top)

Most people who surf the web have created bookmarks or favorites as shortcuts back to the web-sites they'd like to revisit. These are often held as long unorganised lists of rarely visited links.

Vizimarks offers all the functionality of traditional bookmarking systems, and improves this by integrating a highly visual online bookmarking service with all the other new and exciting features of the product. The visual and intuitive functionality of Vizimarks allows the traditional text based systems and the Vizimarks visual system to function side by side.

By using Vizimarks, you won't loose any of your existing booksmarks of favorites. You can upload them all into Vizimarks, and you have all the functionality you had previously. Indeed, by uploading your favorites/bookmarks into Vizimarks, and then dragging and dropping them onto pages of your the Vizimarks scrapbook; they take on all the attributes of a Vizimarks 'card'. This makes the process of organising and classifying existing bookmarks/favorites very easy indeed. See Section 9 for more details.

4. Some Vizimarks Terminology (top)

Element A 'cutting' from a web-page, such as an image, a selection of text, a shockwave file, a java applet, a form or a table ...
Card A 'framed' container to display an individual element on screen. It can be customised in many ways, as will be described later.
Scrapbook Your personal collection of Vizimarks cards.
Leaf An individual page of a scrapbook on which a collection of Vizimark cards can be organised, for instance a Leaf called 'News' could contain news related cards.
Text-Based Link A Vizimarks enhanced Bookmark/Favorite

5. Using Vizimarks - Adding Elements (top)

5.1 To add an element to your scrapbook

  1. Go to any web-site and put your mouse/cursor over an item of interest.
  2. Right-click on the mouse button (i.e. activate the context menu) and you will be presented with a list of options.
  3. Choose "Add to myVizimarks" and an 'Element Selection' window will pop up.
  4. Choose what to save ('Your Selection') and where you want to save it ('Target Leaf') - for more details see section 5.4.
  5. Click OK and a 'Confirmation' window will appear briefly.

Note that sites that make heavy use of Flash or Shockwave need special treatment - see section 5.6 for details.

5.2 To 'Quicksave' an element to your scrapbook

  1. Go to any web site and put your mouse/cursor over an item of interest.
  2. Right-click on the mouse button (i.e. activate the context menu) and you will be presented with a list of options.
  3. Choose "Quicksave to myVizimarks" and a confirmation window will appear briefly, showing what was saved.

'Quicksave' will automatically put the card in your default leaf. You can move it to another leaf when you next visit your Scrapbook. 'Quicksave' is designed to work when saving images and links. If 'Quicksave' is unable to determine what to capture, the 'Element Selection' window will appear (see section 5.4).

5.3 Other items on the context menu

'Launch myVizimarks' opens the Vizimarks Welcome page (www.vizimarks.com) in a new browser window from where you can access your scrapbook.

If you ever add elements when a scrapbook is already open you will need to press refresh/reload to see the newly added cards.

5.4 The 'Element Selection' window

This is where you can choose the specific element you wish to add to your scrapbook. When the window first appears, the 'most obvious' element is displayed (usually the same element that 'Quicksave' would capture). If this is not what you want, click on the 'Your Selection' drop-down selection box and scroll through the options. For each option, the specific element which would be captured is previewed in the lower section of of the Element Selection window.

In this illustration, the user is saving a link to a news story and the default option is highlighted - an image with a link to the news story.

'Your Selection' Options

Some of the options you may see in the drop-down selection menu are described below:

Link to Page or Frame A link to the source web-page or frame. This will be represented in your scrapbook as a Vizimarks enhanced 'bookmark'/'favorite'.
Link A link to another web page which is represented onscreen by text and/or an image.
Text Unformatted text with no link attached.
Image An image with no link attached. Examples include photographs, logos, maps, graphs or mastheads.
Image Map An Image with more than one link attached to it. For example a weather map with links to a number of regional forecasts.
Sub Page A sub-area within a page or frame.
Table A 'table' of web-page content made up of a number of rows and columns.
Table Row A row of content within a table.
Table Cell A single cell within a table - this may in turn contain a number of elements.
Document Body For small web-pages you may be given the option of capturing the whole page!
Frame A page within a page. A single web-page may made up of several frames.
Raw Selection See section 5.5.
Table (2) Sometimes 'Table' will appear more than once in the drop-down menu. If so, then the first 'Table' in the menu is embedded within the second table (and so on ...).
Table Cell(2)/Row(2) A cell or row of a table which is itself within another table ...
Form An area of the source web-page where the user can input information to be submitted to a server, for example to a search engine.
Applet A Java program running within the source web-page (see 5.6).
Object A special type of applets or plug-in, such as Flash, Shockwave, etc (see 5.6).

You can choose from any of the options appearing in the drop-down menu, to add to your Scrapbook.

Additional Features

Links:

If you select a 'Link' (consisting entirely of text with no images) in the 'Your Selection' drop-down menu, you will be presented with the option to amend the text description associated with it (for instance to something shorter and/or more meaningful). To do this simply edit the text in the box below 'Amend Link Description'.

Images:

If you select 'Image' or 'Text' in the 'Your Selection' drop-down menu, you will be presented with the option to attach the URL of the source page. To do this simply click on the check-box. For example this allows you to create a visual link to an online newspaper using the image of its masthead/logo and attaching the URL to the home page of the online edition.

Target Leaf:

You can choose which leaf you want the card added to, by selecting the appropriate leaf title from the 'Target Leaf' drop-down menu. If you change your mind later, you can also easily move the card to another leaf when you next access your scrapbook.

Tip - Scroll Bars:

You may notice scroll bars appearing within the 'Element Selection' window. This occurs when the selected element is larger than its given frame. You can remove the scroll bars by resizing the card before or after you save the item to your scrapbook - see section 8.1 for details of how to do this. NB a documented bug in NN6/Mozilla means that elements occasionally overflow their frames - resizing the frame eliminates this problem.

5.5 Raw Selections

In Internet Explorer (not yet available in NN6/Mozilla) you can select a portion of the screen with your mouse by pressing the mouse, dragging it over, and hence highlighting, the area of interest.

This allows you to be more selective about what you wish to save, than the structure of the underlying web page may naturally allow. If you activate the context menu over the selected area and choose "add to myVizimarks" (or possibly the alternative "add text to myVizimarks" which may appear), you will be given the additional option of saving the "Raw Selection".

Note that Raw Selections work best in Internet Explorer version 5.5 or later - if you are using version 5.0 you should consider upgrading to a more recent version to enhance your experience with Vizimarks.

5.6 Applets, Flash, Shockwave and other Objects

Since Java applets and objects (such as Shockwave and Flash items) often control the context menu, the normal method of element selection cannot be used for such items. Instead, you should activate the context menu elsewhere on the web page (within the same Frame as the applet/object), and then choose "add to myVizimarks". If you do this correctly you will be given the option of saving the applet/object, at the bottom of the 'Your Selection' drop-down menu.

Note that this functionality is currently only available in IE5+ on Windows.

6. Using Vizimarks - Adding Elements: Some Examples (top)

When surfing the web, you will find that many items/elements can be added to your scrapbook, with the main limitation being that of how the web page you're visiting has been designed. Vizimarks' advanced technology means that this limitation can often be overcome using a 'Raw Selection' (see section 5.5)!

When you add elements to your scrapbook, you may find that you are presented with a long list of options (see section 5.4). This could seem overwhelming at first - in which case you may find it helpful to consider how web pages are constructed. For example, if the page contains a "table" (similar to a table in a word processing package), you may be given the option of saving the contents of a table cell, the table cell itself, a table row or the whole table. Vizimarks has been designed to give you the flexibility to capture what you want - as you experiment with the system you will soon get a feel for how the options differ.

To illustrate the process described in section 5, lets look at a live web page:

This is the Guardian Unlimited's world news page. The cursor was over the picture of the Macedonian soldier when the user activated the context menu (right mouse click in Microsoft Windows). The grey context menu and the additional Vizimarks options can be seen:

From this menu, "Add to myVizimarks" was chosen, and that brought up the Element Selection window. Vizimarks has chosen the 'most obvious' element to be saved as a Link. If this option were chosen, the picture would appear on the Vizimarks card, and it would retain a link to the news story referenced on the Guardian Unlimited web-site.

There are other options available in the 'Your Selection' drop-down menu - another example is shown here - a Table Row combines the image, a link and some text.

At the top right of the element selection window, you can change the 'Target Leaf' for the card to be stored. Notice in the last illustration that the user has selected the "News Clippings" leaf. When the user clicks "Add to Scrapbook" a brief confirmation message appears.

In general web sites tend to keep the link to the stories/pictures the same when they archive them (this is particularly true of news sites). As a result, provided that the source web site doesn't move or restrict access to the item (which is unlikely), you'll still be able to see what you originally saved even if it no longer appears on the source web-page.

7. Using Vizimarks - Your Scrapbook Leaves (top)

This is the General leaf from a sample scrapbook which we shall use to illustrate some of the scrapbook functionality. At the top there is an advert, with a Wastebin to the right of it. You will also see the Vizimarks card which was saved to this leaf in section 6.

This Vizimarks card retains its link back to the Guardian Unlimited web site. To click throught to the source site, just put the cursor somewhere within the card and click on it. Vizimarks allows cards to be moved around in a totally free-form manner, just like a scrapbook.

To make changes to the leaf settings, go to its tab at the top and right click with the mouse (ctrl-click in MacOS). The leaf is now highlighted and an options pop-up window will appear as in the illustration.

7.1 Changing the Background Colour of the Leaf

  1. Go to the leaf that you want to change.
  2. Right click on the leaf tab.
  3. Choose a colour from the drop-down menu (TIP: You can see the actual colours available in the drop-down menu).
  4. When happy with the colour, click OK. Note that we have found that lighter colours work best.

7.2 Re-naming Leaves and Sub-Leaves

To re-name the leaf, simply type in the new name you require in the "Change Leaf Title" box and click 'OK'. Vizimarks will automatically re-size the tab in accordance with the length of the title you have chosen.

7.3 Adding, Deleting and Moving Leaves

Simply click the appropriate button on the Leaf Options window.

If you want to create a new category for your Vizimarks cards, simply add in a new leaf, and then change its name.

Note: When moving a leaf, all the cards on that leaf move with it. When deleting a leaf, all the cards on that leaf get deleted too - so do this with care!

7.4 Copying a Leaf

Should you wish to copy all the cards and properties of a leaf, simply click on the Copy Leaf button.

7.5 Creating a Sub-Leaf

In this illustration of the News Clippings leaf you will notice that there are three sub-leaves visible - Finance, Sports and British News.

If you want to add a sub-leaf for the parent leaf you are looking at, type the name you wish to assign to the sub-leaf and click the 'create subleaf' button. This will add a sub-leaf which you can select and customise. To add further sub-leaves you can either (a) add them in the same way or (b) select an existing sub-leaf and add a new leaf from there.

7.6 Repair Card

Please DON'T use this option unless someone at Copyn Limited asks you to ...

8. Using Vizimarks - Your Scrapbook Cards (top)

Cards can be manipulated and moved around in many ways; but in all cases other than re-sizing, changes are initiated by right clicking on any part of the border (except the white corners) or on the Comments box. NB The following descriptions are based on using IE5 in Windows; cursors may look different in other browsers and operating systems, and should you need further clarification about these or any other non-Windows points, see section 12.

8.1 Re-sizing a card

This can be done from any white corner of the card - to ensure the cursor is in the correct position, move the mouse until you get a cross-hairs symbol (a large "+" sign). Once you get this symbol, click and drag the mouse until you get the size you want. If the card is too small to hold the contents, scroll bars appear automatically (currently NN6/Mozilla the content is cropped instead).

A great feature for images is that if there are no links attached the image itself will rescale (respecting aspect ratios) as you resize the card - ideal for online-photo albums!

8.2 Moving a card

If you wish to move a card - simply drag and drop it, using any part of the border (except the white corners) or the Comments box. To ensure the cursor is in the correct position, move the mouse until you get up/down/left/right arrows appearing; then press the mouse button, drag the card until it is where you want it, and finally let go of the mouse button.

Cards can be placed on top of one another, or wherever you want in your Scrapbook.

The Scrapbook is bigger than your screen, so you could put cards "out of sight" (using the scroll bars to navigate your larger 'canvas') and then bring them back when you want to view them.

Cards can also be moved between leaves, simply drag the card to the relevant leaf tab, and when the relevant tab is highlighted, release the mouse. In NN6/Mozilla and IE for MacOS the leaf tab may not be highlighted, but the card can still be dropped onto the leaf tab to which the mouse cursor is pointing.

8.3 Deleting a Card

If you wish to permanently delete a card, drag the card until the mouse cursor (not the card) is over the wastebin in the top right cornet of your Scrapbook, and let go of the mouse. The card will then be permanently deleted.

NB There will be no warning or confirmation message when a cards is about to be deleted.

8.4 Changing the Background Colour of a Card

Right-click on any part of the border (except the white corners) or on the Comments box (that is, move the mouse until you get up/down/left/right arrows appearing, and then right-click) to bring up the card options window. Sections 8.5 - 8.10 will also refer to the card options window.

Changing the background colour is particularly useful if you have captured an image with a transparent background, or text where the background colour has lost.

  1. Go to the card that you want to change.
  2. Activate the card options window.
  3. Choose a colour from the drop down box (TIP: You can see the actual colours available in the drop-down menu.)
  4. When you are happy with the colour, click OK.

In the illustration above, the user has changed the background colour to 'WhiteSmoke'. Notice that the comment has also been changed (see section 8.6).

8.5 Changing the Size of the Border

The default border size is set at 3, but this can be changed to anything between 0 - 5.

8.6 Comment Box

The default comment says "Comments", but this can be changed to whatever you wish. You can also choose to omit the comment box all together.

8.7 Emailing Cards to Friends

Coming soon! ... You can see a preview of the planned functionality by pressing the appropriate button, but you cannot yet send a card.

8.8 Wallpaper

If you like a particular image/picture in a card, you can make it the background wallpaper of the leaf containing that card (different leaves can have different wallpapers). Simply click on the appropriate button.

8.9 Copying a Card

Should you want to have a card appear in more than one leaf, you can make a copy of it, and then move the copy to a different leaf.

Right-click on the card's border or comment area, and the card options window will give you the option of copying it. The copy can be moved or dropped onto another leaf as described in 8.2.

8.10 Change Reload Frequency

If a card contains potentially "live content", you are given the option of setting a reload frequency. For example if you have a live stock price chart, then setting the reload frequency to "15 minutes" would cause this image to be updated every 15 minutes. Note that in Netscape 6, this functionality lacks refinement and can be somewhat unreliable (we aim to release an improved implementation once changes within the Netscape browser make this possible).

8.11 Source Page and Copyright Information

In the bottom left corner of any card whose Comment Box is not hidden, you'll see a small white icon that looks like a piece of paper. If you click on this icon, the source page of the element will open in a new browser window.

Next to this icon, you'll see a small © copyright symbol. If you click on this symbol, a dialog window will pop-up reminding you to check for any copyright restrictions on the source site. Please see section 12 for more information about your responsibilities regarding the copyright of third party material.

9. Using Vizimarks - Text Based Links (top)

9.1 Uploading Text Based Links to your Vizimarks Scrapbook

  • IMPORTANT: (a) You don't have to upload your favorites or bookmarks if you don't want to! (b) If you do want to, then you should only undertake the steps below at most once per leaf!  (c) If you do undertake these steps, you won't lose your original favorites or bookmarks.
  • Go to the Vizimarks Welcome Page in your main browser window.
  • If you are using MS Internet Explorer, click the 'Upload Favorites' item in the menu on the left, and then follow the instructions in the panel on the right.  In the pop-up window, click 'yes' to confirm you want to export your favorites, and then after a few seconds (or longer if you have a lot of favorites!) you will get a message saying 'Successfully exported favorites'. Some users may not get this message, but their favorites may still have been uploaded - check this by following the next few steps (if at the end of these steps it is clear that your favorites have not been uploaded, then please contact help@vizimarks.com for assistance).
  • If you are using Netscape 6 this process is a little more involved (we are awaiting an enhancement in Netscape itself to allow us to make the process easier!).  Click the 'Upload Bookmarks' item in the menu on the left, and then follow the instructions in the panel on the right.  Press the 'Browse' button next to 'Upload your Netscape Bookmark File:' (do not enter anything in the text box!!) and a dialog should appear to navigate you to the directory where your 'bookmarks.html' file is stored.  Select it and click 'OK'.  If you do not know where your bookmarks.html file is stored then follow the next step.
  • If you are using Netscape 6 and you cannot find your bookmarks file, then you can export a copy to a specific file location. On your browser choose 'Bookmarks' and then 'Manage Bookmarks'.  In the new window choose 'File' and then 'Export Bookmarks'.  Make a careful note of where you save the 'bookmarks.html' file and then repeat the instructions in the previous bullet point, with this exported copy of your bookmarks.
  • Whichever browser you are using, return to the Vizimarks Welcome Page and click the 'Go to myVizimarks' item in the menu on the left.  Click on the tab of the leaf which you chose to upload your favorites/bookmarks to.  Then click on the bookmarks/favorites button near the top left corner of the screen (or alternatively hold the 'shift' key down while you click again on the relevant leaf tab with the mouse). The contents of your leaf will shift to the right and, after a couple of seconds, all your favorites or bookmarks will appear neatly laid out on the left:
    • You can open and close folders by clicking on them.
    • You can rearrange them by dragging and dropping them.
    • Try dragging one onto the leaf to the right of the list and see what happens!
  • To close the list of text based links, simply click on the bookmarks/favorites button (or 'shift-click' on the relevant leaf tab) again.

9.2 Viewing your Text Based Links in your Vizimarks Scrapbook

  1. Go into your Scrapbook and choose the leaf where you uploaded your text-based links.
  2. Click on the favorites/bookmarks button near the top left corner of your scrapbook.
  3. Alternatively, hold down the 'shift key' and click on the relevant leaf tab.

Here are some IE favorites which were uploaded into a sample Vizimarks scrapbook. The original file structure has been maintained, and the folders can be expanded or collapsed as you'd expect. These Vizimarks enhanced favorites/bookmarks are referred to as 'Text Based Links', and can be manipulated in a similar fashion to Vizimarks cards.

9.3 Clicking Through on Text Based Links

  1. Click on the link to open a new window at the web location specified in the text based link.

9.4 Transferring Text Based Links into Vizimarks Cards

This image shows a link to an Indian Spice company highlighted as part of the list of text based links.

  1. Click on the folder or item (in NN6/Mozilla on all platforms and IE on MacOS you must drag from the text and not the background).
  2. Drag it across to main part of the scrapbook leaf and release it.
  3. The link will automically create its own Vizimarks card, and will take on all the attributes of a regular card. It can then be manipulated in the same way as ordinary cards (see section 8).

If you wish to move a text based link from a card to the main list, drag the card and drop it where you want it to appear in the list. You will notice a red line on the item above where it will be dropped, or a blue line on the item directly below.

You can also drop the card into a folder. Dragging and holding a text based link over a folder will cause the folder to open - the text based link can then be dropped into the folder. As you drag and drop text based links you will see them flash 'red' momentarily - this is to indicate that your data is being updated for these items! Note that you can add more links to a Vizimarks card than it already contains, by simply dragging and dropping them from the main list or from other cards into the given card.

9.5 Hiding Text Based Links

It is easy to hide the list of links:

  1. Click again on the favorites/bookmarks button near the top left corner of your scrapbook.
  2. Alternatively, hold down the 'shift key' and click on the relevant leaf tab.

To see the list again simply repeat!

9.6 Other Features

When a text based link or a folder is highlighted by the mouse, other ways to manipulate them are available;

  • Type 'e' to edit the link/folder itself or its description.
  • Type 'd' to delete the link/folder.
  • Type 'n' to add a new folder which can then be renamed and moved as required.

10. Live Content (top)

Images displayed in your Vizimarks scrapbook will be updated as they change on the source server. Fresh versions can be obtained by either setting the reload frequency (see section 8.10) or by reloading your scrapbook. In general, however, text content will not be updated as the source page changes.

Vizimarks does, however, offer a special class of card whose content is regularly updated. If you choose the Live Content option on the Wizimarks Welcome Page you can access a public scrapbook. This contains a collection of cards that you can copy into your own scrapbook where they will continue to be updated automatically as the underlying content changes. In order to copy a card from the public scrapbook, activate the context menu over the card. Instead of the usual customisation options, you are given the option of adding this card to your own scrapbook. After you have chosen the target leaf and pressed 'OK', the card will turn green to indicate that this card has been copied to your scrapbook.

At present there is only a limited choice of content available in this public scrapbook; but we aim to increase it as the service expands

11. Supported Platforms (top)

Vizimarks will work with Internet Explorer ("IE") v5.x+ (for Windows) and Netscape 6+ ("NN6") or Mozilla 0.9+ (in Windows, Linux and MacOS). We are currently putting the final touches to Vizimarks for use on IE5 for MacOS. We are optimistic that other browsers will be supported in time, such as Opera, iCab and Konqueror; but at present they do not fully support the required industry standards.

12. Non-Windows Users (top)

This guide has been written based on the regular keyboard shortcuts or commands for Windows 9X, NT or 2K. The screen shots were gathered using IE5.5 for the browser. Should you be using a different OS or browser and the alternative key strokes have not been highlighted in this user guide, it is likely that the usual keystrokes for your system/browser have been implemented. However, if you encounter any difficulties, please contact us at help@vizimarks.com.

13. Copyright Information (top)

In the bottom left corner of each Vizimarks card is a Copyright symbol (©), if you click on this you will see a message highlighting the source page of the card's content. This is included as many web sites have their own copyright restrictions which Vizimarks users should be aware of.

Material on many web sites may be subject to copyright restrictions but these often allow users to make copies for their own personal use. If you have any doubt about how your use of Vizimarks may breach the copyright restrictions on a particular site you should check these restrictions before you add elements to your Vizimarks scrapbook.

We would also refer you to the Vizimarks Terms & Conditions, and Privacy Policy.
